Dr. Andrewartha holds the Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Religion and a minor in Sacred Music from Baylor University (1961), the Master of Divinity with Biblical Languages degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (1982), and the Doctor of Philosophy degree with a major in New Testament Interpretation and minors in Old Testament Interpretation and in Pastoral Ministries from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (1989).
He has served Baptist churches in Texas since 1953 as Pastor, Associate Pastor, Music Minister, Youth Minister, Education Minister, and Outreach and Adult Education Minister, as well as Interim Pastor, Interim Music Minister, Consultant, and Conference Leader. He currently serves the First Baptist Church of Bulverde, a small congregation north of San Antonio, as part-time Music Minister.
Since 1985 his responsibilities at Wayland Baptist University in San Antonio, Texas, have included teaching New Testament History and other religion courses, as well as providing liaison and academic and pastoral counseling to soldiers and civilian personnel at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
He has been married since 1955 to Nelda Ruth Henderson Andrewartha. They have two children and six living grandchildren. Nelda taught English and other Language Arts subjects in middle and high schools for thirty-four years, the last eight serving as English Department Coordinator at John Jay High School in the Northside Independent School District in San Antonio, before assuming the duties of District Supervisor for Language Arts at NISD, a post she held for ten years.
